Abbie and Vicky's Sponsored Sky Ride
Two amazing teenagers, Abbie Wheeler and Vicky Hawkins were inspired to take to their bikes on 2nd September 2012 for a 4 mile Sky Ride around Cannon Hill Park in Birmingham. They were raising funds for A Child Of Mine and St Basils – a Birmingham based Charity working to prevent youth homelessness.
The girls raised over £140.00 of sponsors that will be split between A Child Of Mine and St Basils. Abbie (Left) said "we sat down together and decided that we wanted to help charities raise money and awareness, and started planning our first charity event."
The Sky Rides take place all over Birmingham, they are a great community event and perfect for anyone who hasn't ridden for a while which is why Abbie and Vicky decided on their sponsored cycle. Abbie also suffers from a femoral anterversion which means that there is a twist in her femur bone. For Abbie this means there is added pressure on her knees and her feet turn in making cycling uncomfortable and much more of a challenge.
Abbie recently got to know Gayle from A Child Of Mine through making contact with her on their Twitter account, @achildofmine. "Gayle was friendly and helped me through a difficult time in my life" said Abbie. "I could really see the work that was being done to help others and the charity needed more funds to help them become a fully registered charity and to carry on making a difference to people lives".
We are extremely grateful to Abbie and Vicky, not only for choosing A Child Of Mine as one of their designated charities, but for their support and determination to overcome their own personal challenges for charity – thank you! We also thank you for an fantastic £70.00 raised, which will go a long way to help us reach our goal and make a difference.
