In November 2013 I met an incredible guy called Angelo Antinoro whilst I was presenting at a CBUK study day. Angelo introduced himself after my talk and mentioned that he was preparing for a mammoth cycle challenge from Stoke to Sicily, in memory of his sister. Angelo wanted to do the ride and also raise money for a local charity however, he hadn't found one that he'd really connected to. But after hearing me talk about my own personal journey, Angelo asked if he could raise the money for ACOM and of course we were absolutely delighted!
Angelo, works as a welfare and inclusion manager atHanley's Forest Park Primary School in Stoke on Trent. The school started Angelo's fundraising campaign with a community day in May 2014, where an incredible £2,700 was raised. To add to this amazing amount Angelo gained some fantastic corporate sponsors including Regis, Swinnerton Bikes, Time 4 Sport and Medical Life who all gave generously towards his incredible ride.
Angelo would be riding solo and cover approximately 1500 miles. It was going to be an extremely tough challenge for Angelo both physically and mentally as he planned to cycle over 120 miles per day. He hoped that he could complete the ride within just 2 weeks.
On 23rd July 2014, Angelo set off on his epic journey. I have to say I felt like a worried mother following his progress every day. It was tough going for Angelo on quite a few occasions, his satellite navigation failed and even having to sleep rough. I was worried, and would only settle when I received a text most nights from him to tell me that he was OK.
I cannot tell you how I felt watching and following this epic journey, worried yes. But I was also extremely proud and honoured that Angelo was doing this ride in memory of his beautiful sister whilst raising money for A Child Of Mine. After 10 days Angelo finally arrived in Casteltermini in Sicily, what an amazing journey, what an amazing guy!
In total Angelo has raised an astounding £6, 325.34 forA Child Of Mine! We cannot thank him enough for everything he has done and to everyone who has donated and supported this incredible challenge. THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts, what a huge difference you have helped to make. I can honestly say that I have found a true friend in Angelo and his beautiful family, who have all been so supportive of his journey and myself and the charity, thank you!
Angelo now tells me that he is looking towards the next challenge possibly 2016 in America!! WOW!
