Lewis was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukodystrophy called Krabbe Disease in 2003 at only 10 months old. Krabbe is a rare genetic condition and currently incurable. It is one of several known Leukodystrophies, a genetic disease that progressively destroys the white matter of the brain.
Since Lewis' death his family and friends have worked hard to raise funds for Acorn's Children's Hospice who supported Lewis throughout his journey. "Team Lewis" was formed and they have now raised thousands of pounds in memory of their very special little boy.
After the loss of Lewis in September 2006 we wanted to do something as a tribute to him and more important to us away to remember Lewis. We wanted to bring friends and family together where we could help others by holding fundraising events at the Valley Stadium. In 2007 we got together and Team Lewis was formed. Our first event would be a Charity Football Match against the Aston Villa All Stars. It would see us raise funds for the Acorns Childrens Hospice which is very close to our hearts. Since 2007 we have gone from strength to strength. We have twice climbed Ben Nevis and we have held other Charity Football Matches. We are now delighted to form a partnership with Redditch Utd which will see us hold all of our future fundraising events.
We would like to thank everyone for all of their support they have given since the loss of Lewis. It means so much to the both of us"
Team Lewis holds many fundraising events as a tribute to Lewis including football matches, sportsman evenings, memorabilia auctions and the odd one or two mountain treks. They are also on an epic journey around all 92 football league clubs with Lewis' flag tour!
