Baby Bereavement Support Group

The Baby Bereavement Support Group (BBSG) was founded in 1994 by Valerie Lake, Member of the British Empire, (MBE), Registered General Nurse (RGN), Registered Midwife (RM). We are a volunteer run, not-for-profit organization, consisting of bereaved parents. Originally, most of our volunteers came seeking our help and support and now they want to give their time and experience to help bereaved-parents, their families and friends.

Many families find contact with people who knew their child and who can understand some of what they are going through can be genuinely helpful as they cope with the grieving process. We know that every family will cope with bereavement in a way that is right for them, therefore we aim to offer support that is flexible to individual needs and that reflects the culture and values of the individual.

St Teresa's Hospice Darlington

Our Bereavement Support Service looks after the emotional and practical needs of loved ones left behind when someone dies after a terminal illness.

The service is offered by our Family Support Team which includes a social worker, counsellors and volunteers. We provide practical advice and information and use our empathy and experience to simply listen and support.

We also have a 'drop-in" meeting where people who have been bereaved can come along and chat over a cup of tea or coffee and share their feelings and experiences with other bereaved people.
